Epicure seed potatoes are also known as Ayrshires with them being the traditional early potato in that area. Epicure has the ability to recover quickly from a nip of frost and that is why it is so popular in early producing areas.

When Foremost was first added to the national variety list in 1954 it was called Suttons Foremost.

Arran Comrade (1918). This is a round, smooth, white second early. At the request of Medwyn Williams we have brought this variety back as top grade minitubers. As good as many modern favourites as far as requirements for a white show potato go. The variety also had a great reputation for excellent flavour and good cooking characteristics. Disease-wise it is susceptible to blight but it was regarded as a vigorous, reliable cropper at its peak when we grew it commercially many years ago.

Balmoral is a beautiful part-coloured potato bred in 1991 by TEAGASC in Ireland.

British Queen is a heritage variety first listed in 1894 and is known in Ireland as Queens.

Carlingford is an excellent salad type potato which produces a high number of round to oval tubers.

Catriona are famous for their floury pale yellow flesh with pleasing flavour. A very good exhibition variety due to its oval shaped appearance with a white skin and purple splashes around the eyes.

Estima is the potato of choice for most supermarkets as a baking potato. It produces heavy crops of large oval tubers with light yellow skin and flesh. This variety shows good resistance to growth cracks and secondary growth. One of the most popular varieties in the UK.

First listed in 1895 this variety was a popular potato due to its floury texture. As the name suggests Flourball was a popular Irish variety and has a great flavour. Disease wise this variety shows good scab resistance and is best eaten with the skin on.

First listed in 1930 this variety was as popular as King Edward and probably the most popular variety in Ireland at the time. An oval creamy fleshed potato with great floury texture made this variety stand out from the rest. Disease wise Gladstone still shows good scab resistance and blight resistance even by todays standards.

Heather are a unique purple skinned potato bred by Jack Dunnett. A variety that was popular amongst keen exhibition growers until it was with drawn from the market place. It is now back and you should make the most of the chance to buy these super potatoes.

Kestrel potatoes have to be one of the best varieties in living memory. Bred by the great man himself Jack Dunnett, Kestrel potatoes have taken the exhibition scene by storm because of thier consistent size and colour.One of the best tasting varieties with excellent cooking uses and disease resistance, Kestrel are the potatoes that you should always grow.

Marfona potatoes are a high yielding variety which produces consistent large crops of waxy baking type potatoes. Marfona Tubers are oval in shape with a light yellow flesh and cream coloured flesh.

Maris Peer produces one of the most magnificent looking haulms ever. The flowers on the foliage are even scented which makes them unusual. Peer tubers are oval in shape with a firm creamy coloured flesh and white skin. Disease wise they have good resistance to all skin diseases. Purple Eyed Seedling is said to have originated more than twenty years ago in the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. This version is a very pretty oval potato with bright patches of purple rather like Kestrel but with pale yellow flesh. This potato has been used on six occasions to win the British Potato Championship. It became so infected with virus that he could no longer produce large enough tubers for exhibition and was placed into the SASA potato bank and cleaned of all virus before this new strain could be released.

Saxon is a modern-day variety that produces large crops of long oval white skinned tubers. The flesh is firm and yellow in colour and ideal for all kitchen uses. Saxon is said to be one of the best tasting modern type varieties.

Stroma are a niche potato that are now becoming more popular. They are from the same breeder as Kestrel and Winston. Tubers are long and oval in shape with firm waxy yellow flesh and contrast the red skin well.

Ulster Sovereign were first listed in 1962 by N.Ireland Breeder J.Clarke who later went on to produce Dunluce. The flesh is somewhere between waxy and floury and can be a very useful kitchen variety.

Ambo is an early maincrop with mainly white skin but a large splash of red colour. Tubers are short-oval and have a white creamy flesh. A high yielding variety with great blight resistance and good scab resistance.

Argos is well adapted to production in hot climates which make this a popular export variety. Argos produces very high yields of long oval shaped white tubers with cream coloured flesh. A great all-round potato for kitchen use.

Blue Belle is without doubt one of the best looking potatoes available on the market today. This early maincrop variety can produce a large yield of tasty tuber that are full of colour around the eyes. I have yet to see a Blue Belle that was not good to look at. In the kitchen you will find these are excellent for boiling, baking and mashing and are generally good all-round.

Cara is still one of the most popular maincrop varieties due to their blight resistance. Tubers are round with white skin and pink eyes. They are a very robust variety and have excellent drought resistance as well as good all round disease resistance. Can not be sold to Northern or Southern Ireland

Celine is a popular red early maincrop variety which produces large numbers of smooth skinned tubers with light yellow flesh. Cooking quality is very good as is the taste and a high disease resistance make this a potato worth growing.

An early maincrop variety brought over from America. Tubers are oval in shape with pure white flesh inside. When first harvested the skins are a beautiful shade of red. This is a high yielding variety with good all-round disease resistance. Latest News - Winner of the RHS AGM.

Desiree produce oval red skinned tubers with pale yellow flesh. Heavy cropper and early bulking. High resistance to drought & good resistance to potato virus Y and powdery scab. Susceptible to potato cyst nematode and mis-shapes on heavy soils. Moderately susceptible to spraing & mild mosaic viruses. Medium dry matter, firm cooked texture, good boiling, fresh French fry & mashing quality.

Edzell Blue are a popular variety in Scotland due to their floury texture. They have a vivid purple skin with bright white flesh. This variety is believe to date from the early 1900s.

Golden Wonder tubers are long and oval with a russet skin. The flesh is white and floury which when boiled can be very dry and mealy to the delight of many. They are a late maturing maincrop and should be planted as early as possible to produce a large crop. They have great resistance to common scab.

Harmony is a very popular export variety as it produces large crops of clean white skinned tubers that are very resistant to scab. Harmony is a very good baking potato. Most people will know Harmony because of its showbench success. Shallow eyes and a smooth skin make this a very pretty potato.

This is a real novelty potato to produce at a dinner party. The centre flesh of the potato is a light red colour surrounded by a white outline of flesh. They have a slightly sweet taste combined with a floury texture. The colour of the flesh can be retained if they are cooked gently.

Kerrs Pink is a very popular variety in Scotland and Ireland because of its dry and floury nature. Tubers are normally short and oval with slightly deep eyes and should just be eaten simply in their beautiful pink skins. They have good blight resistance and long-term storage ability.

King Edward are probably the most famous potato on the market, They are a known for their excellent cooking and taste qualities. Once cooked they rarely discolour and offer a broad range of uses. Often copied but never beaten is why King Edward have been around for a century.

At one stage Majestic was the variety of potato most grown in the UK. It has stood the test of time since the 1940s because it produces a consistent crop of potatoes in all soil types. A white skinned variety with soft white flesh and a floury taste. Storage of this variety is very good and was a great addition to the potato world by Archibald Findlay.

Maris Piper potatoes are the choice of the chip shops. It is the cooking and frying qualities of Maris Piper that made this potato stand out from the rest and today it is still grown on a large commercial scale.Maris Piper seed potato tubers are oval in shape with a white skin and cream coloured flesh. It is also a good long-term storage potato.

Markies are the new rival of the ever popular Maris Piper. They have excellent cooking and frying qualities to match Piper but they have the advantage of better blight resistance and overall higher disease resistance. They are a great all-round kitchen potato because of their floury texture.

Maxine produce beautiful round tubers with red skin and waxy white flesh. A heavy cropping variety and good all-round cooker make this one of the better potatoes on the market today. A smooth skin and shallow eyes have also caught the eye of the exhibition grower and earned this potato the RHS award of garden merit.

Navan were one of the first varieties to be bred from Maris Piper with the intention of replacing them. The tubers are round to oval with a white skin and creamy coloured flesh. They are an excellent frying variety and have good all round disease resistance.

Orla are a very popular potato for the organic grower due to their high blight resistance. They can be grown as a first early or left to mature as an early maincrop. It is one of the better tasting varieties and produces large crops of bold white tubers.

Peach Bloom is believed to date back to 1850 and has a very unique skin colour which is red and white in almost equal measure. They are a late maturing maincrop and are best eaten as a small tasty baby potato with just a side portion of butter to dip them in.

Pentland Crown produces large numbers of bold white tubers that have a floury texture of flesh. They are moist and floury once they have been cooked and are a great all-round potato variety. If you want to grow large tasty potatoes then this is the variety for you.

Pentland Dell was the second variety to be produced from the Pentlandfield station. Dell produces large oval tubers with a white skin and creamy coloured flesh. This variety is grown on a large scale for processors who find it a most useful potato. Good resistance to all disease and some resistance to slugs.

Pentland Squire tubers are round and white skinned with white flesh. They produce large crops of bold tubers that have all-round table use. They have decent slug resistance and good all-round disease resistance.

Picasso tubers are round to oval in shape with white smooth skins and pink eyes. This is now a popular variety for allotment growers due to its high disease resistance. With Cara as one of its parents it has a great range of uses in the kitchen. A huge yielder and good storing variety.

Pink Fir Apple potatoes are a heritage variety that is maintained by Jamieson Brothers. The tubers are long and knobbly and are best eaten in their skins on or served as individual chunky chips. Even when they have been stored they retain a new potato taste well into the new year. Winner of the RHS award of garden merit.

Record is a popular choice for crisping and frying due to their high dry matter. They can be very dry and mealy after boiling and retain their yellow coloured flesh. Record has good all-round disease resistance and great kitchen use.

Red King Edward are a sport of the ever popular King Edward. They have an even better taste and have great all-round use in the kitchen. They produce a large yield of white fleshed tubers with shallow red eyes.

Romano is a modern version of Desiree with its strong red skin colour. The flesh is white and makes for a good all-round table potato. It has good all-round disease resistance and is also slug resistant!

Rooster potatoes are probably one of the best known varieties.

Ryecroft Purple are a bright shade of purple with bright contrasting white flesh. This is one of the nicest potatoes that we grow and Pre-dates the 1920s. Ryecroft exhibits good blight resistant when grown under field conditions.

Sante is a round white skinned variety with light yellow flesh and produces large bold tubers. It is a good all-round kitchen variety and is ideal for organic growing. Resistance to pests and disease are very good.

Setanta is one of the most blight resistant varieties in the UK. A great variety for the allotment grower. It has a reasonably smooth red skin with yellow flesh. Tubers are oval in shape and have shallow eyes. Excellent blight resistance and and scab resistance combined with great taste.

Stemster is another Jack Dunnett variety which proved to be popular for the export market. The tubers are oval in shape with a bright red skin and yellow flesh. They also have good drought resistance and heat tolerance.

The Bishop (1912) This relatively low yielding late maincrop was produced by Dr. J. H. Wilson of St Andrew\\\'s University. This variety is considerd by many exhibitors to be the best long, white kidney available for late shows. It is certainly very attractive and after speaking with Medwyn Williams and many other keen exhibitors we have decided to produce this variety as minitubers. The tubers are firm and waxy and have good long term storage.

A brand new blight resistant variety with a very high blight resistance.

Valor shows great levels of blight resistance matched with the ability to produce large crops of bold white tubers. Bred by Jack Dunnett it has a high tolerance of heat and drought. The flesh of Valor is cream coloured and of a floury texture with a very pleasant taste.

We call this variety Purple King Edward after some tubers of Mr Littles Yetholm Gypsy were DNA tested and found to contain the genetics of the famous King Edward potato. These are the only known potato to show 3 colours in the skin which are red,white and blue. A big cropping variety that produces floury textured tubers.
